The "Iron Horsemen MC" was the original name
of the Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club in the late 1960's. It was decided by
the founding fathers in 1969 to change the "Iron Horsemen" into the Freedom Riders.
The Shield,
Eagle with inset Liberty Bell, the embroidered "Freedom Riders" across the top,
"M. C." at the bottom of each eagle wing, and "Montgomery County, PA" across the
bottom was then adopted. This is our club insignia to this day.
In the year 1999, It was proposed and voted upon to add the "Est. 1970" rocker at
the bottom of the shield. This was brought about by the discovery of another
Freedom Rider motorcycle club in our local area that
we wanted to distinguish our club from. While it is true that the Freedom
Riders MC was started in 1969 (which almost made it on the rocker!) It was decided
that our official charter with the American Motorcyclist
Association (AMA) was established in 1970, and that was the official year Freedom
Riders MC would use. The older members of the club have the one piece shield
with the rocker added. The new club insignia are now one
piece with the rocker being part of the main shield.
The clubhouse was purchased shortly
after the club joined the AMA. The structure is an old creamery located along
the Perkiomen Railroad. The Perkiomen Railroad is mostly now a hiking and
biking trail that stretches
from Philadelphia through skippack. It is long standing rumour that this Trail
will some day go right past our clubhouse, although it has not gone that far yet.
The club house sits on over an acre of property in Red
Hill, Montgomery County, PA. We have many parties, rides, Bonfires, and our
weekly meetings are held at the club house
weather permitting (Snow/Ice).
